Movement

Movement in Orff schulwerk comes in three forms: improvisatory movement, rhythmic movement, and folkdance. Each serves an important purpose. Improvisational movement builds confidence, cooperation, balance coordination, and body awareness. It also creates an understanding of the range of movement our amazing bodies can do. Rhythmic movement internalizes rhythm, and is often an important part of folk music and folk tale traditions. It is also a fun way to learn songs and enhance dramas. Folk dancing is a window into different cultures and builds a dance vocabulary, and skill that offers a lifelong enriching experience.
